THIRD SERIES OF DEADLY YARNS ANNOUNCED
Western Australian Indigenous filmmakers will have another chance to tell their ‘deadliest’ short story on film, with the commissioning of the third series of ‘Deadly Yarns’.
A joint partnership between ABC TV, ScreenWest and the Film and Television Institute (FTI), ‘Deadly Yarns’ aims to further develop the skills and opportunities for Western Australian Indigenous Writers, Directors and Producers, by developing and funding the production of a number of five-minute films.
Continuing the theme and building on the success of the first two series, ‘Deadly Yarns 3’ invites Indigenous filmmakers to explore 'their best, most personal, funniest or deadliest story' in a documentary, drama, doco-drama or animation format. Both Indigenous and non-Indigenous audiences can access these films via national broadcast on ABC Television and ABC 2.
Sheila McHale, Western Australian Minister for Culture and Arts and Indigenous Affairs said the ‘Deadly Yarns’ series provided a great platform to highlight the creative talent within the Indigenous Western Australian community.
"Securing the commitment of the ABC to bring more great television from WA Indigenous filmmakers to national audiences is a great achievement. The Carpenter Government’s investment in the series creates jobs and promotes the talent of our Indigenous filmmakers," she said.
Kim Dalton, ABC Director of Television said “ABC TV is delighted to be able to provide the opportunity to showcase comedy, documentary and drama storytelling skills of both new and experienced Western Australian Indigenous filmmakers and the national broadcaster is a perfect home for such stories”.
Graeme Sward, Chief Executive of the Film & Television Institute said, “It’s great to see a successful initiative continued and FTI is excited to be part of assisting Indigenous filmmakers in getting their stories onto the screen.”
