WA screenwriters nominated at AWGIES

01 July 2009

Western Australian screenwriters for Bran Nue Dae and The Circuit 2 have been nominated at this year's AWGIE Awards. The AWGIE Awards, presented by the Australian Writers' Guild's (AWG), recognise excellence in screen, television, stage and radio writing. The 42nd annual Awards will be presented in Sydney on Friday August 28, 2009.

Reg Cribb, Rachel Perkins and Jimmy Chi have been nominated in the Feature Film Adaptation category for the Indigenous musical Bran Nue Dae. Based on the original stage musical by WA writer Jimmy Chi and his band Kuckles, director Rachel Perkins co-wrote the film script with WA screenwriter and playwright Reg Cribb. The film stars actors Geoffrey Rush, Ernie Dingo, Deborah Mailman, Ningali Lawford, Rocky McKenzie and singers Missy Higgins, Dan Sultan and Jessica Mauboy.

Kelly Lefever and Mitch Torres with Dot West and Wayne Blair have been nominated in the Television Mini Series Original category for their work on The Circuit 2. The Indigenous drama series set in the Kimberley court 'circuit' follows a magistrate and an entourage of court officers and lawyers on their regular five-day 2000 kilometre round-trip to dispense justice to the remote communities of north Western Australia.

ScreenWest would like to congratulate all the nominees and wish them good luck at the Awards ceremony.

Bran Nue Dae and The Circuit 2 are proudly supported by ScreenWest and Lotterywest.
